The Capdrive is the Network Concentrator which performs the following three tasks:
- Handles the communication with the host computer by using a simple handshake-protocol over a serial RS232-C line or an ethernet
interface. From the computer, the network is seen as being one single ASCII terminal
- Provides power (24V DC) to the terminals. This central power supply has several advantages including low cost, safe voltage
levels and easy to backup
- Does the polling of all (up to 255) terminals over up to 4 opto-isolated Capnet (Captor network) lines
All terminals can be randomly distributed across the available Capnet lines. The Capnet is designed to withstand harsh industrial
environments. The robust Capnet protocol in combination with strong communication driver/receiver pairs guarantees a reliable
transfer of data. We guarantee communication over distances up to 2km. using standard shielded cabling. The Capnet was designed
to offer the best immunity against electrical noise and interferences.
